Apple's in Trouble is the 5th episode of Season 1 of Apple & Onion and the 5th episode overall.

Synopsis[]

Apple is challenged to a fight by a grumpy cheesesteak, so he and Onion go on a quest to find the source of Cheesesteak’s grumpiness.

Plot[]

The episode starts with Apple and Onion goofing of at the checkout stand at the Dollar Store with Lemon Drop, with Apple playing with the dollars to make them look like eyebrows. When Lemon Drop asks him to make a happy face, Patty walks by and tells them to be finished counting the money before she comes back and takes Lemon Drop home. As they sort the money out, Lemon Drop asks Apple to make a happy face with the dollars again, but he says no. Lemon Drop takes it into her own hands and chucks the money into the air, messing up their concentration. Apple then yells at Lemon drop saying she messed everything up, causing her to droop to the floor.

A few weeks later, during their time at the Dollar Store, a grumpy Cheesesteak storms into the building, looking for shoes. Apple notices his anger, and decides to try to crack a joke to cheer him up, despite Onion's worries.

The jokes go VERY wrong, with it culminating in Cheesesteak having enough incentive to destroy Apple. But before he can, he realized that he needed to get back to the hotel where he works. Apple wasn't off the hook, as Cheesesteak forced him to come back in 2 weeks for a beatdown.

Apple and Onion deduce that in order to escape Cheesesteak's wrath, they need to find his weakness. When they head over to the hotel where he works, they learn that his anger is fed by his boss, Fried Shrimp by constantly criticizing his stomping. When they go over to confront him, Birthday cake interrupts them, backlashing that she'll close the hotel for an unknown reason. This fuels Fried Shrimp's stress enough to keep getting angry at Cheesesteak's stomping. Cheesesteak even managed to destroy a guest's luggage.

The duo realize that what they just witnessed was what Onion called a chain reaction. He demonstrates his theory with dominoes. The last 4 dominoes represent Apple, Cheesesteak, Fried Shrimp, and Birthday Cake, respectively. When Onion pushes the first domino down, the rest go down as well, representing the chain reaction of negative emotions. They then go to investigate who the first domino represents.

After some spying, they learn that Birthday Cake threatened Fried Shrimp because her personal chef Turkey Leg stopped cooking for her, leaving her foodless and starving. They learn that Turkey Leg stopped making food due to rats infesting his kitchen. The two follow a rat down a toilet into the sewer, where they discover an upside down Gingerbread Man who says he owns the rats. He says that he controls them with a special dance, but someone above has been playing the sax aggressively, keeping him up for 2 nights. Apple and Onion find Root Beer Float, who is playing her sax hard to relieve her stress made by her preschool students.

The next day, the duo investigate the preschool where she works. although it seemed like the chain reaction had no end, they soon find Lemon Drop disturbing Root Beer Float's teaching. They then go to ask her questions, which she reveals that she did it because Apple shouted at her. When they have no memory of what happened, she puts leaves on her forehead, similar to how Apple did a few weeks ago with the dollar bills, which reminds Apple of when he scolded Lemon Drop for ruining their concentration.

Apple, morose that it was HIS fault for starting the chain reaction, tearfully apologizes to the toddler, saying that he deserves his punishment. Luckily, Lemon Drop forgives Apple, saying that she still loves him. And with that, the chain reaction is reversed: Lemon Drop apologizes to Root Beer Float, Root beer Float gives Gingerbread his long deserved sleep, Gingerbread gets the mice out of Turkey Leg's kitchen, Turkey Leg starts cooking for Birthday cake again, and Birthday cake showers Fried Shrimp with money as a thank you.

However, when the duo explain to Patty why they haven't been at work for the past days, they discover that the reversal didn't reach Cheesesteak, as he marches over to the Dollar Store, angrier than ever. As Patty holds him off, Fried Shrimp suddenly appears behind him, apologizing for being so mean. Cheesesteak, touched by his boss's change of heart, forgets about beating up Apple, reversing the chain reaction completely.
